THE BETTY & MAUDE STORY

I'm Tania, the founder of Betty & Maude.

My love of shopping for beautiful things started many years ago as a buyer and product manager in the fashion, home and gift industries, working for prestigious brands such as Price's Candles, Gisela Graham, Rayban Sunglasses and Soho House.  I still continue to immerse myself in fashion and lifestyle trends to inform my buying decisions.  It was after my youngest started school back in 2012 that I decided to set up Betty & Maude.

I started by sourcing and restoring vintage furniture and, over the years, have diversified into selling a carefully curated collection of quirky gifts, funny cards, bags, jewellery and home accessories.

Based in a small Surrey Hills village in the rolling English countryside, between Haslemere and Godalming, Betty & Maude has grown from my love of hunting down the unique and the interesting and my passion for home interiors.

I like to stock unique items from small British makers or international fair trade enterprises and keep my stock levels small with new items added weekly.  The collections are kept fresh and interesting, and there is always something new to see. I also only sell things that I would buy for my own home or wear myself - if I love them, I'm hoping you will too!

Meet the rest of the team!

We’d always been cat people (in fact

Betty and Maude was named after our much loved pet cats!) until Mabel became part of the family. Now she’s my constant companion, lying beside my packing table as I work and gives me the perfect excuse to get out and explore the beautiful local countryside on our regular walks.

Tania has a unique eye at sourcing a wonderful combination of classic and quirky items.  The hardest thing about buying things from Betty & Maude is not keeping them for yourself when they are designed to be a gift!
